What is a Janam Kundli?

A Janam Kundli — also written Kundali or called a Janam Patri — is a map of the sky at the exact moment and place you were born. Vedic astrology divides it into twelve houses (bhavas), starting from the Lagna: the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at birth.

Each of the nine grahas — Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu — sits in a sign and a house. A Jyotishi reads these placements together with Nakshatras, divisional charts such as Navamsa, Yogas and the planetary periods called Dasha.

What you need for an accurate Kundli

Your Kundli is only as accurate as the birth details you enter. The Lagna changes roughly every two hours, so even a 10–15 minute error can move house positions and the Navamsa.

• Date of birth — as on your birth certificate.
• Exact time of birth — a hospital or municipal record is better than memory.
• Place of birth — city, town or village; MoKundli resolves latitude, longitude and the historical time zone.

What is free and what is Premium?
