KUNDLI BASICS

Kundli: What a Vedic Birth Chart Shows

A Kundli, also called a Janam Kundli or Vedic birth chart, is a map of planetary positions calculated for a specific date, time and place of birth. It is the foundation used for many Jyotish techniques, including houses, planetary placements, divisional charts and Vimshottari Dasha timing.

What information is used to calculate a Kundli?

A birth chart depends on the birth date, birth time and birthplace. The birthplace is converted into geographic coordinates and a timezone so the planetary positions and ascendant can be calculated for the correct moment.

Birth time matters especially for the ascendant and house positions. Even when the planetary signs are unchanged, a different birth time can change the rising sign and the way planets are distributed through the houses.

  • Date of birth
  • Exact or best-known time of birth
  • Birthplace, latitude and longitude
  • Timezone for the birthplace at the birth moment

What does a Kundli contain?

A complete Vedic chart can contain the ascendant, Moon sign, Nakshatra, planetary signs and degrees, house placements, aspects or relationships between planets, divisional charts, Yogas and planetary-period information.

Different Jyotish systems may present or interpret some of these details differently. MoKundli separates calculated chart data from explanatory AI text so the underlying positions remain traceable to the configured astrology provider.

Kundli versus prediction

A Kundli is calculated astronomical and astrological input. A prediction is an interpretation built from that input. They are not the same thing.

MoKundli treats the saved chart as structured data and uses it as context for explanations. It does not ask an AI model to invent planetary positions that were not calculated by the astrology provider.

How to read your chart in MoKundli

Start with the ascendant, Moon sign and Nakshatra, then look at planetary positions and houses. After that, use the Dasha timeline to understand which planetary period is active and how the timing layers fit together.

The most useful approach is to combine chart structure with timing rather than reading a single planet or sign in isolation.

Frequently asked questions

How do I read my Janam Kundli for the first time?

Start with the Lagna (ascendant), then identify the 12 houses and the signs occupied by the nine Grahas. Compare house lordships, planetary aspects and the Moon's Nakshatra before interpreting a single planet. Birth time accuracy matters because Lagna and house placements can change.

What do the 12 houses mean in Vedic astrology?

The first house represents self and identity, second finances and family, third effort, fourth home, fifth learning, sixth service and challenges, seventh partnerships, eighth transformation, ninth beliefs, tenth career, eleventh gains and twelfth expenditure and retreat. Read each house with its lord and aspects.

Use astrology as context, not certainty

Jyotish is interpretive. A chart or Dasha period does not guarantee a particular life event. Important decisions should also use real-world evidence and appropriate professional advice.
